One of the most popular questions we receive from our customers is - why would you need to Detail a brand new car?

There are a few reasons but the main one would be the most obvious one is the protection factor - you really want to keep your car looking as good as the day you collected it. The protection applied to all paintwork & plastics comes in the form of a ceramic coating - CQuartz to be exact.


Ceramic coatings outlast traditional methods of paint protection(wax) by at least 5 times, with CQuartz lasting 24 months. This makes the car much easier to keep clean and the dirt / road salt simply falls from the paintwork on powerwashing.


Another reason for having a new car detailed is the fact a lot of the time the car isn’t in the perfect condition you would expect. We have a one stage machine polish included in all our new car details as we have found that 4 out of 5 cars does have light swirl marks on the paintwork and these need to be removed before applying the ceramic coating.


The swirl marks are usually caused by poor wash technique carried out by the garage, typically in a rush to get the car ready and out the door - a reason we would advise customers to stay clear of dealer applied protection(supagard etc) as they simply don’t spend/have enough time to apply the coating correctly. Using our method it takes us one full day to prepare,polish & apply the ceramic coating then the car is kept in our studio overnight to allow the coating to cure.

We agreed to carry out a 2 stage machine polish to try and rectify the defects, the cutting stage to remove the scratches followed by a refining stage to restore the clarity and shine of the paintwork.


I used the Rupes machine polishing system to achieve the finished results below -

I would like to add these scratches were removed as they were all on the surface - a good test as to whether a scratch can be removed by machine polishing is that if you can catch it with your finger nail then it’s usually top deep to be fully removed - but an improvement can usually be made.

We started off with a snow foam wash with microfibre wash mitts 

We then dried off the bodywork with our Woolly Mammoth drying towel then removed all tar & fallout spots before clay barring all paintwork and glass

The car was then moved inside for inspection revealing pretty heavy swirling as shown in image below

A massive improvement after a one stage machine polish, the paintwork is proving to be fairly soft - usually the Ultimate Detail is required for this level of correction

The wheels were polished then protected with AM Details wheel wax
